Catherine Walter AM

Catherine Walter was appointed to the Melbourne International Arts Festival Board in June 2006.
Catherine Walter holds a first class honours Law degree, a Master of Laws and an MBA, all from the University of Melbourne. Catherine is currently Chairman of Equipsuper, a Director of Orica, Australian Foundation Investment Company, Melbourne Business School, Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and a member of the Federal Governments Financial Reporting Council.
Catherine practised law in major city law firms for 20 years and after graduating with an MBA from Melbourne Business School became Managing Partner of the Melbourne Office of Clayton Utz and thereafter a Commissioner of the City of Melbourne.
Catherine has been an independent non-executive director for over 15 years, and has served on a range of governing bodies spanning many different industry sectors. Governing Bodies have included Government and not-for- profit entities and listed companies across education, the Arts, financial services, insurance, consumer goods, telecommunications and resources. Catherine has served as a member of a number of Government Inquiries and think tanks. In particular Catherine has been a board member of National Australia Bank and the Australian Stock Exchange, a Council member of the University of Melbourne and a member of the Nugent Inquiry into the Arts.
Catherine was awarded a Centenary Medal in January 2001 for service to Australian society in business leadership and was made a Member of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 2003 for service to business, particularly as a director of a range of public companies, to the arts, to the law, and to the community through the Melbourne City Council
