Carol Schwartz AM was appointed President of the Melbourne International Arts Festival Board by the Minister for the Arts in May 2005.
Carol is a prominent Melbourne identity in both the business and arts communities. She has a diverse background which incorporates the arts, law and business administration. Carol is director of the Highpoint Property Group. She is chair of the Industry Superannuation Property Trust and is also chairperson for the organisation Our Community.
Carol’s current directorships include the Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney), Chair of the VicUrban Art Panel Advisory Committee and board member of The Sydney Institute and Western Chances. Her experience spans a number of cultural organisations and she has previously served on the Board for the Victorian College of the Arts, the National Gallery of Australia, the Australian Ballet School and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Carol Schwartz is recognised as one of Australia’s leading business executives. In April 2003 she was awarded the Centenary Medal in recognition for her outstanding service as a leading business executive and committee participant. She has a strong commitment to the arts, presenting excellent corporate and cultural experience to the Festival Board.
Carol’s achievements in business and her contribution to community and the arts were further acknowledged in the Australia Day Honours list 2006, with her award of the Member of the Order of Australia.
