City Museum at Old Treasury Call Out For Artists

City Museum opened at the Old Treasury Building in Melbourne's CBD in September 2005, as an independent, self-funded not-for-profit organisation.
The permanent exhibition, Making Melbourne, tells the history of Melbourne. The Museum is currently redeveloping its permanent exhibition space. The theme of Art in Melbourne will be explored.
The Museum would like to show moving image in the gallery space: animation, short film and documentary. The subject matter would need to be Melbourne-specific, or relevant to the history of Melbourne.
This is a great opportunity for up-and-emerging Melbourne artists. They can't offer money, but they can offer exposure - all work would, of course, be credited. If you are interested please contact Kate Luciano, Curator, City Museum at Old Treasury on 0413 742 155
MELBOURNE ART FAIR 2008

One of the highlights of Melbourne Art Fair is the commissioned works, which are positioned within the Royal Exhibition Building and gifted to an Australian institution at the conclusion of the Fair. In 2008 two prominent Australian artists have been commissioned to realise large-scale works that will be unveiled during the 4-day event.
2006 saw contemporary New Zealand artist, Michael Parekowhai create Cosmo, a monumental inflated rabbit sculpture standing 8m high x 5m wide, later gifted to the National Gallery of Victoria.
All components of Melbourne Art Fair directly benefit the work of living artists. Over it's 20-year history, the Fair has generated a wealth of national and international commercial and critical attention for artists and galleries. The 2006 Fair was attended by over 26,000 people and provided living artists with over AUD $6M from sales.
Presented by the Melbourne Art Fair Foundation - a not-for-profit organisation with its primary goal being the promotion of contemporary art, the ethical representation of living artists and raising awareness of artists working today- the Melbourne Art Fair is a breakeven event that takes no revenue from the sale of artworks.

ASA CD GIVEAWAY
"Asa makes music for and from the soul." BBC 1

Filter Music presents the self-titled debut album by Asa [Asha], a dazzling talented Franco-Nigerian singer-songwriter, set for Australian release on 2 August.
Asa's album and unique sound - hints of Marvin, Marley, Fela and Erykah Badu combining into something entirely fresh - have won her fans and critical acclaim across the world.
Highly personal and totally universal, Asa's music crosses all frontiers, not just geographical, but also those of the heart and soul, and defies genres blending funk, pop, jazz, R&B and soul, with reggae also making an appearance on Fire on the Mountain, the first single slated for release.
Highlights include the emblematic opening song, Jailer, which denounces modern slavery in all its forms; Eye Adaba (‘dove' in Yoruba) where Asa's voice takes on a fragile air, beautifully echoing the accompanying acoustic guitar; and So Beautiful, a vibrant homage to her mother. Flautist Magic Malik is featured throughout the album's eleven tracks.
ArtsZine has 5 copies of the CD to giveaway.Email info@mbpublicity.com.au with your name, address and phone number. Please insery"Asa" as the subject header.
Ang Fang Quartet - Nosferatu

Recreating the silent film era at Kingston Arts Centre
The experience of the silent film era will be recreated in Kingston in a one-off show this month when Ang Fang Quartet presents the classic film Nosferatu at the Kingston Arts Centre on Saturday July 19 at 8pm.
Instead of the traditional piano player providing musical accompaniment for the film, Ang Fang Quartet will present their original compositions set to Nosferatu.
The groundbreaking, sensitive and supremely dramatic musical score received critical acclaim during Ang Fang Quartet's tour of regional Victoria and New South Wales.
FW Murnau's Nosferatu, first released in Germany in 1921, is regarded as the first and the best vampire film. It is centred on a young man visiting the mountain castle of a reclusive count who sleeps by day and sucks blood from his human prey by night. The count travels to Bremen on a plague ship to attack the young man's wife and bring terror to the citizens.
Melbourne-based Ang Fang Quartet comprises Paul Gillett, James Hazeldon, Harold Lye and Thomas Rouch.
Nosferatu will run for 90 minutes and there will be allocated cabaret style seating. A wide range of platters are available for pre-order. To book platters, telephone the Kingston Arts Centre Box Office on 9556 4440.
