Sasha Waltz & Guests
Körper
What is the body? How is it made? What are its limitations? What are its possibilities?
To coincide with the Festival presentation of its latest production Medea, Sasha Waltz & Guests performs its dance masterpiece, the virtuosic Körper. Here is the human body, laid bare; the inner viscera and the outer shell, its fragility and its strength, its beauty and its ugliness; here is the body in history, in science, in architecture.
When Körper premiered at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, it shook the very foundations of the European dance community. At once magical spectacle and science experiment, Körper explores and exposes the range of bodily experience. It is a survey of mortality, of the quest for immortality and reproduction in the age of genetic manipulation and the dream of the perfect body.
