The Chet Baker Journey (Australia)
Chet Baker was the prototype of 20th-century cool. His movie-star looks and honeyed vocals won him pop stardom, and his effortless trumpet style earned the respect of the jazz elite; his well-known struggle with drugs brought it all crashing down.
In Freeway: The Chet Baker Journey, international cabaret award winner Tim Draxl finds a living interpretation of a singularly complex figure, illuminating Baker’s life of tormented stardom to expose the haunting mood and delicate nuance of his finest work.
Backed by a hand-picked live band, Draxl channels the Prince of Cool through renditions of his best-loved songs, including ‘My Funny Valentine’, ‘Let’s Get Lost’, ‘These Foolish Things’, ‘Look for the Silver Lining’, ‘There Will Never Be Another You’ and ‘You Don’t Know What Love Is’.
Resonant, haunting and exhilarating, Freeway is a candid tribute to a musical icon.
